Last night our pastor's message was about the redemption story of Rahab. For those who don't know about Rahab you should read all about her in Joshua 2. To sum up her story she was a prostitute that took in some spies and she hid them from the people that wanted to kill them. She was blessed because she saved their lives and because of that her and her family were saved when Israel took over the land. I know that doesn't seem so exciting but you should read it for yourself :-) There were a lot of great points my pastor made but the one thing that really stood out and I feel that this is something that we all need to hear is he said that God used Rahab just as she was. Remember she was a prostitute, she wasn't what we would classify as a person who should be used by God. Even thought that thinking is wrong we still tend to think that only "good Christian" people should be used by God. What is so remarkable about this is that God used her just as she was. She wasn't a preacher, she was a missionary, she wasn't a leader in the church yet God used her.
I know that many times we think that God can't use us because we aren't perfect humans. The thought of being used by God if we are not completely changed is something that hold us back. But if God could use a prostitute why can't he use you? I'm not saying that we should just contiune to live our lives the way we want because we know that God could use us as we are, we still need to strive to live righteous and obey the way God has asked us to live.
So my prayer for us today is that we wont let our pasts or our current situations hold us back from what God wants to do with us. I pray that we would repent of our ways that would keep us from being used by God and that we ask him for strength to help us keep moving foward with what the Lord has for us. I pray for strenght and faith to let God be God.
