I know what bothers me, bad drivers/traffic, stupid questions (my opinion), and being late just to name a few. I hate it when you're trying to get somewhere quick and you get stuck behind a bad driver. The stupid question thing happens to me all the time at work, and nothing makes me more mad then being late, whether it's my fault or someone elses. I don't know about you but when these things happen to me I usually get mad. Knowing that these types of things make me mad, I always try to avoid these things as much as possible. Sometimes I wish I could just tell people what bothers me, what I hate, and that everyone would just not do any of those things and life would be great. If you knew that something bothered someone so much, would you keep doing it to them? I'm not talking about trying to get a laugh out of a friend I'm talking about something that someone can't stand and detests, would you do it to them? I think it's safe to say that we wouldn't because we don't want to be a bad example to people. What if I told you that many of us do things that really make someone's blood boil? What if I said that we do things that someone hates? If you knew what we did and who it made mad, would you think twice about doing those things? I hope so. In Proverbs 6: 16-19 we see what we do and who it make mad.
16 There are six things the LORD hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19 a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
Any of you do things on that list? I know I'm guilty. What really speaks to me is I have this picture of God just getting a little upset when I do something on this list. Almost like it bothered him a little but then it's not a big deal. After reading this I picture how I get when someone does something that I hate and how much it make me mad. Here's something to think about, when you get mad/ bothered, there's really nothing you can do about it. You can either suck it up and deal with it or you can start an arguement, get mad and let this thing eat at you. Now imagine what God could do to you if you keep making him mad? Read how he handled this in the Old Testament, it wasn't so nice. I'm not saying that if you make God mad then he's going to kill you, but I just think we should always have on our mind who God is, what he's capable of doing so we stay away from these things.
Now if you've done something from this list this doesn't mean that God hates you or doesn't love you. God always loves you no matter what you do. I just wanted to show you this list and make you aware of what God hates. Not to scare you but to open your eyes.
My prayer for us today is that God does open ours eyes and helps us to see what we may be doing that would make him mad. I pray that through this we would repent of our ways and ask God to forgive us. I pray that we would be given the strength to stay away from the things that God hates and I pray for strength and faith for us to let God be God.
